DISHNAKARMMAM
Payyanur pavithra mothiram is one of the GI tagged crafts of Kerala, which uniquely holds a mythical tradition behind its origin and creation. Being one of the most intricate crafts of Kerala, it is believed to possess a sacred value that brings luck and prosperity to the wearer. This ornament is authentically manufactured by certain families in the Payyanur village of Kannur district of Kerala who are closely related to the Payyanur Subramanya Swami temple. This piece of jewelry is particularly
noted for a specific detail in the ring, called the Pavithra kettu, which is an intricate three-layered curvy structural design. The origin and authenticity of this holy ring are associated with the history of Payyanur Subramanya Temple. According to the temple rules and the rites performed, each Pavithra ring artisan is required to follow certain demands regarding the aspect of holiness for being the maker of this sacred piece of jewelry. These procedures also cover certain making processes, to qualify the mark of an authentic piece of Pavithra ring. But, one common concern which
revolves around this craft is the duplication of this handicraft, losing its original authentic value. This issue gradually leads to a decline of the purest Pavithra mothiram which requires a great deal of awareness among people to regain its reach. These setbacks can be solved to some extent if proper awareness is being given to the craft to bring to note of the intricate work which goes into its
making. This notion being the key objective of the video is created by incorporating various aspects like environmental setting and lighting to evoke the right feel of the craft.
