Alappuzha, often referred to as the Venice of the East, serves as a central hub for coir production in Kerala. Despite boasting a variety of traditional industries such as marine and handloom, the district is predominantly recognized as the epicenter of the coir industry. This eco-friendly golden fiber, celebrated for its role in supporting the go-green movement, has earned a coveted GI Tag for its production process. However, despite its fame and environmental benefits, the coir industry is facing numerous challenges, including modernization of coir spinning techniques and a decline in availability of quality coconut husk. These issues threaten the survival of traditional coir industries and highlight the urgent need for awareness and support. The primary objective of this visual representation is to shed light on the plight of Alappuzha's coir industry, emphasizing the need for upliftment and addressing the current challenges faced by its craftsmen.
